The National Memorial at Savar and Syed Mainul Hossain

Syed Mainul Hossain was the designer and architect of the National Memorial at Savar in Bangladesh.

Mainul Hossain was born in 1951 and died in 2014. Apart from the Ntional Memorial, he designed a number of structures.

Mainul’s design for the Memorial was selected from amongst 57 submissions in the national project’s design in 1978. The Memorial symbolizes the valour and sacrifice of the freedom fighters and the rise of Bangladesh.

The height of the main monument of the Memorial is 150 feet. The seven isosceles of the Memorial stand for the seven Birshreshtas and the seven remarkable movements that took place between 1952 and 1971.
