Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

‘Heart of Darkness’ is a famous short novel by the famous novelist Joseph Conrad.

The novelds ‘Heart of Darkness’ depicts the colonial regime of the British in Africa. The speaker of the novel is Marlow. How Africa and the Africans were, how the British ruled Africa, how the attitudes of the both sides were, what the difficulties were- all these have been portrayed vividly here in the novel.

The subject matter of the novel is very serious and very realistic. It’s a great novel dealing with colonialism in Africa. The book gives a vivid picture of the cruel and inhumane nature of the then British ruler towards the Africans.

Again the novel ‘Heart of Darkness’ presents the Africans somehow as savage, fool and uncivilized. If fact, the novel is very much enjoyable.
